How doorstep laptop repair actually works

Most people who call us about a broken laptop are not really asking about the repair. They are asking how much of their day it is going to cost them. Getting to a service centre in Chennai traffic, waiting to be seen, going back a few days later to collect — that is easily two half-days gone for what might be a thirty-minute job.

Doorstep service removes that entirely. We collect the machine from your home or office, diagnose it at our Medavakkam workshop, call you with a firm price, do the work once you approve it, and bring it back. Pickup and delivery are free, with no minimum repair value, and the diagnosis is free whether or not you go ahead.

Which areas we collect from

Our workshop sits on the Velachery Tambaram Main Road in Medavakkam, and free collection runs across the surrounding neighbourhoods: Velachery, Madipakkam, Madambakkam, Gowrivakkam, Nanmangalam, Sembakkam, Perumbakkam, Selaiyur, Camp Road, Rajakilpakkam, Thiruvancheri and Noothenchery.

Eastwards we cover the OMR corridor out to Navalur, taking in Sholinganallur and the gated communities around Perumbakkam. That side of our service area is almost entirely IT staff, and the laptop we are collecting is usually the machine somebody works on. We schedule those pickups around office hours and prioritise the turnaround accordingly.

What happens between pickup and delivery

The sequence is deliberately boring, because surprises in this business are almost always bad ones.

Free diagnosis first. We find the actual fault rather than guessing from the symptom. That distinction matters more than it sounds: a flickering screen might be a failed panel costing several thousand rupees, or a chafed display cable costing a few hundred. We do not quote until we know which.

A firm price, before anything is opened. We call you with what is wrong, what it costs and how long it will take. Nothing is dismantled or replaced until you say yes. If the answer is no, we return the laptop free.

The repair, in-house. Everything happens at the Medavakkam workshop, including chip-level motherboard work. Nothing is sent to a third party, so nobody has to tell you they are still waiting to hear back from someone else.

Testing before it leaves. The machine is stress-tested, not just switched on once to see the login screen. Faults that only appear under load are exactly the faults that come back.

Delivery with a printed bill listing every part fitted and the warranty on each one.

What can and cannot be done this way

Nearly everything can. Screen replacement, batteries, keyboards, hinges, SSD and RAM upgrades, thermal cleaning, data recovery, OS reinstalls and chip-level board repair are all workshop jobs, and the doorstep service is simply how the machine gets to the bench and back.

Timings vary by job. Minor work — a battery, a keyboard, a RAM upgrade, a thermal clean, a software reinstall — is usually done within five or six hours, so same-day return is realistic if we collect in the morning. Board-level repair and anything needing a part ordered in typically runs 24 to 48 hours.

Desktops are the exception worth mentioning. For most desktop faults we would rather visit you than move the cabinet twice, so those are handled as onsite visits.

Before we arrive

Two things make the whole process faster. Back up anything irreplaceable if the machine still switches on — we are careful and we never touch a drive without asking, but no repair shop can promise a failing disk will survive being moved. And send us a photo of the fault on WhatsApp beforehand. A picture of a cracked screen, a swollen battery lifting the trackpad, or an error message on boot often lets us give you a realistic price range before anyone travels anywhere.

If your laptop has had liquid spilled on it, do one thing immediately: switch it off and do not plug it in. Most liquid-damage write-offs are not caused by the spill. They are caused by somebody powering the board up while it is still wet.

Is doorstep pickup genuinely free?

Yes, both directions, with no minimum repair value. If you decide against the repair after seeing the quote, the return trip is free too.

How quickly can you collect?

For the areas closest to Medavakkam, usually the same day and often within a couple of hours. For Navalur and the far end of OMR we normally schedule for the same or next day around your availability.

Do you work on Sundays?

The workshop is open Sunday from 11am to 4pm. Pickups can generally be arranged, though weekday slots are easier.

Can I just come to the shop instead?

Of course. Walk in without an appointment, and free diagnosis takes about fifteen minutes. Small jobs are often done while you wait.
